Rebuilds The main cabin was originally much lower. Re-built in mid-1960’s (??) and the cabin, foredeck and catwalks were fiberglassed over. · New poles, rigging, rub rails, guard rails, cap rails and stanchions added in 1985. Boom removed in 1998 and fish hold converted to a small aft cabin. · In 2000, we cut out part of the deck and built a larger aft cabin. Anecdotes
Oak frames, red cedar carvel planking, fir and gumwood keel. Fished all over the west coast as a salmon troller for 69 years (until 1996), carrying 5,000 lbs of iced salmon in insulated hold (later the aft cabin). The fishing licence (seven ton A & Z) was sold in the buy-back and the boat was converted for recreational use in 1996. The poles were shortened at that time. In 1996 this vessel was regularly used for travel between Vancouver and Franklin T. Cox's oyster lease on Denman Island. In 1997 the poles and boom was removed. Converted fish hold to aft cabin. Cruised extensively through south coast waters. Chad Norris, Seattle WA renamed the boat “Lucky Penny” and undertook extensive hull restoration and cabin and interior renovations, including connecting the main and aft cabins. By fall 2008 he was living fulltime aboard the vessel and cruising in southern BC/WA waters, and continued to upgrade the boat, which he reported was performing very well.
