Frank Statham reports that "After his Army service he came back to Victoria in 1906 where he helped construct the Gonzales Radio Station. He prospected for gold in the yukon. He served in the Dominion Wireless Service as a W/T Operator 1909. A Victoria newspaper reports he was doing the wireless installation at Estevan in January of 1909. In 1911 he served at Dead Tree Radio Station as W/T Operator. Once the Victoria station was completed, he and Ted Rickensen went to Pachena and Estevan Points to do the installation there. Upon completion of the stations Howard left the service but reappeared as an operator within a few months. He was at Cape Lazo in 1914. In 1918 he was appointed as OIC at Point Grey Radio Station. In 1921 he was appointed as a Radio Inspector in Victoria. He became a senior radio inspector in 1927." |

He joined the Royal Engineers and came out to work on improving the defenses of Esquimalt Harbor around 1900. He returned to the UK and was discharged. He was appointed as a First Class Wireless Telegraph Operator RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/03/1916). He was appointed as a Chief Wireless Telegraph Operator RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/03/1916). In 1916-1918 he served in HMCS Rainbow for Wireless Telegraph Duty (West Coast) at Point Grey Radio Station. (He was demobilized.) |
