In 1941 this vessel was seized from her Japanese owners by the Canadian Government. In 1942 this vessel was appraised at $16,400 and her ownership transferred to His Majesty the King. In 1942 this vessel was commissioned into the RCN Fisherman's Reserve as H.M.C.S. Barclay Sound. Pendant Number (With Fishery Pendant Superior) FY 23. In 1942 this vessel was listed as a Harbour Service Auxiliary in the Canadian Navy List. In 1943 this vessel was serving as tender to H.M.C.S. Givenchy II. In 1944 this vessel was serving as tender to H.M.C.S. Givenchy. Robert Etchell (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 08/12/2016) report that "The Barkley Sound is docked on the Fraser River in New Westminster near the Sapperton Skytrain Station and this vesselhas been there for a very long time." Al Hoskins (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 21/05/2019) stated that "The Barkley Sound is now a sunken wreck, alongside some logs in South Bamfield Inlet." Al Hoskins (British Columbia Nautical Historyy Facebook Group 12/01/2024) stated "The wreck of the Barkley Sound was removed from South Bamfield Inlet last year (2023), at taxpayers expense." |
