Bob Fulton states "The Halcyon II was designed by Ed Monk Sr, built in Victoria, BC at the Nicholson boatyard by Frank Fredette .Halcyon II was built for James Green , Victoria, BC. in 1948. Halcyon II is 35' pilot house cutter with main sail, staysail, bowsprit & yankee jib & 5000 lb cast iron ballast. This vessel was refit in 1981. The hull was stripped to bare wood, re-fastened, re-caulked, new keel bolts, new stem band. new 1" teak over marine plywood decks, new bulwarks and covering boards solid yellow cedar same as original construction and joining. A new hollow sitka spruce mast with stainless steel hardware was installed in 1983. New sails in 1985. New stainless steel water, fuel & hydraulic tanks installed 1986. New Isuzu 15 hp diesel with hydraulic drive & new shaft & prop in 1986. In 2012 this vessel was donated to the Cowichan Wooden Boat Society by Harold Seaglynn. Harold maintained the boat well and had a teak galley installed. In 2019 this vessel was purchased by Bob & Donna Fulton of Duncan BC and is presently moored at the CWBS in Cowichan Bay BC. The Halcyon II has been a father-son project since this vessel was acquired in 2019 with extensive work undertaken. The mast was removed and refinished in 2020-2021 with new stainless steel standing rigging. All new electronics, electrical, plumbing and propane system and SS railings have been installed. The engine had been rebuilt in 2009 and recently the exhaust, and cooling systems were replaced. Bob and his son Kevin sailed her for the first time in 2021 in Cowichan Bay. Mike Moad of Parksville BC is a regular mate who helps crew and perform boat maintenance." Cindy O'Dell (Email to Nauticapedia 22/02/2024) stated "We completely re-built this boat down to the keel bolts and fastenings. And we lived on her for over 5 years. Cindy O'Dell and Dean Smith took possession of the Halcyon II December 23rd 1980 and we sold her in May 1990." |
