Anecdotes

Bryon Taylor (Email to Nauticapedia 14/02/2019) states that "This vessel formed part of the pre-war Fishermen’s Reserve Fleet. This vessel participated in the 30 January – 25 February 1939 Fishermen’s Reserve Training Session. This vessel was however not mobilized for active duty during the Second World War. This vessel was inspected at the request of the NOIC Prince Rupert but was not taken into Naval Service." Dan Edwards (Email to Nauticapedia 11/11/2021) stated "I am the owner of a 57 foot halibut schooner built in 1927 at Mcleans shipyard in Prince Rupert. The vessel was a working fishing vessel(halibut and black cod) and it has been at the dock in Ucluelet for the last two years. It is still in working condition and was hauled out in February of 2021. The picture in this post is the Helen 11 in the early nineties when it was an Ocean Fisheries packer. They retired it in 1996 and we bought it back in 1998 and made a long liner out of it. It was a halibut long liner for much of its life until in the early 1970s Ocean Fish bought it and did a significant rebuild, converting it to a salmon packer for their gillnet fleet."
