This vessel was a sister ship to the Franklin.this vessel was a Canadian Coast Guard Arctic Class III Icebreaker which, in 1978, made a West to East Transit of the Northwest Passage under her Master, Captain P. Toomey. This was the maiden voyage. In 1980 this vessel made a partial transit of the Northwest Passage while accompanying the Irving Arctic and the Irving Birch into the Arctic Islands from the Atlantic Ocean and return. In 1990 under the command of Captain P. Toomey this vessel completed a partial transit of the Northwest Passage westward to accompany the USCGC Polar Sea through Lancaster Sound, Peel Sound, Demarcation Point and return.
