Anecdotes
Makaely Rois (Email to Nauticapedia 02/01/20223) stated "Your records are correct on the file as the owner was Ronald Hope. Apparently he passed away and did not have his paperwork in order as to who was to inherit the ship. He had left it out on his property uncovered for the last 15 years and it became in really rough shape. Apparently he was going to fix it up for a pleasure vessel. But the hull is good for the most part. Some rot and holes here and there. No cabin. That's been cut away. It was for sale but no one would buy it. Was on market place for a month at least. The estate inherited it and the estate owners wanted it off the property as it had become an eyesore and a painful remembrance to the family. My husband Ralph and I live about 15 min from their place. I saw the vessel in the ad. Ralph and I are working on building an adventure park here in Courtenay for kids and their families. I thought it would be a great park element, when fixed up for the kids to play on. Slides and ramps and cargo nets etc where things are broken out on the ship. I have ideas of ways to make the ship safe. So we went to see the Ocean Foam and I fell in love with it. Being an artist, wood carver and I rebuild antique furniture I could see the potential in her.. I thought...and Ralph is a carpenter and home builder. I did tell the owner after phoning everyone I could that the ship was too large to move and it would cost way too much money for us. Needed a hauler from Sooke and a pilot car..plus a great driveway access.. The family was going to get us or others to tear the boat apart. They took out the motor and sold that. Probably anything else of value. But they said they would organize and pay for the move of the ship to our place. I'm so thrilled to have the ship. I love it! I've been spending some time to clean it up. Will be alot of work. As we are low on funds it may take some time .. like could be years. But the kids to the park will love her!"
