On October 15, 1933 this vessel suffered a fire and explosion at Retreat Cove at Galiano Island BC. The engineer, Harry Kayahara was killed instantly and Captain Masakichi Kubo was mortally wounded. The boat was beached for repairs when the incident occurred. It is believed that the switching on of a light ignited gasolene fumes causing the explosion. |
