Chuck Franzin (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 15/04/2020) stated "Chuck Franzin The Neo is called that because it was a replacement boat for the Caligus, apparently a meeting off scientists couldn't come up with a cool name for the new boat, meeting ground on and on, till one guy had to go home and just stood up and said why not name it the Neocaligus!, every body else wanted to go home too so that is how it got it's name.
