Anecdotes |
---|
This vessel was powered by a steam engine from the first two Distributors. This vessel carried a crew of 32. The high superstructure and flat bottom made it highly susceptible to winds so that navigation on lakes and in the wide sections of the river were often delayed until the weather was calm. Four or five scows carrying freight were often pushed ahead through deep water but these had to be taken through one at a time in shallow water. It took about 30 days to make the full trip to Aklavik. This vessel was broken up in 1946 and the paddlewheel was abandoned at Fort Smith NWT where the paddlewheel has been preserved in a park. |
