In 1970 this vesselcost $3.23 million. This vessel operated from the Esso Refinery at Ioco on Burard Inlet. This vessel delivers up to 8 different petroleum products as far as Nanaimo and Victoria. "was subsequently placed in service carrying petroleum products to B.C. coastal ports, replacing the older tanker Imperial Vancouver. This was the first vessel on the B.C. coast to be fitted with a bulbous bow for increased propulsion efficiency, and the first Canadian tanker designed to carry containers and palletized packaged petroleum products in addition to her bulk oil capacity of 1.3 million gallons. Her 3,000-horsepower diesel engines are operated by remote control consoles in the wheel house and a control room forward. In addition to twin screws and rudders, this vessel was fitted with a 185-horsepower bow-thrust propeller for added maneuverability." - Gordon Newell, Maritime Events of 1969, H. W. McCurdy Marine History of the Pacific Northwest 1966 to 1975, p.64. |
