Anecdotes |

This vessel was a Hi Ho class sloop. Mark MacKenzie (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 08/08/2024) stated "I had a Hi Ho sloop, possibly the Errant! I was unable to complete the garboard repairs so gave it up to the wood working shop af a Victoria area high school circa 1994. I hope she lived on. Lovelly boat. Fast, weatherly. The design troble with these was a 3/4 length keel, essentially a fin with the rudder hung off it. Creosoted 6x8 fir built up most of it with a huge chunk of iron at the bottom. This was through bolted to 4x4 floors, but giung into 1x2 steam -bent oak frames with 1x cedar planks there was a real tendency to work the garboard seams. Still, I sailed her hard ( lack of imagination of youth). She had her mast replaced with an aluminum dragon class rig. Arguably a bit overhatted, she sure went like stink!" |
