Robert Allen stated (Email to Nauticapedia 17/09/2024) that "I noted that Nauticapedia identifies Phil Spaulding as the designer of the Malibu Princess, but there is a drawing set matching her description in Bill’s drawings. It is possible that Arthur McLaren engaged Spaulding to revise the design."
