Shirley Cawley (nee Gooldrup) stated "Gilbert Gooldrup (my father) went on to build a 30 foot gillnet bowpicker, Mr. X, for his son Richard in 1963. Mr. X was fast and cruised at 30 knots. Gilbert Gooldrup built his vessels from high grade marine plywood scarfed together with glue and nails for lightweight and speed. He would take advantage of this speed and deliver his catch from mid-coast directly to Vancouver markets to take advantage of better pricing." |
