Raked stem, mahogany-planked transom stern, carvel cedar planked hull above the waterline with fir planking below, with oak frames. Decks are one inch marine plywood. Foc'sle stateroom with two bunks. Engineroom accessible from forward stateroom. Large panelled pilot house and aft panelled trunk cabin with heads, galley, washplace, dining area, double bed. Fuel tanks in lazarette. Major refit of aft cabin 1989, moving galley to portside forward. Dinette replaced with dropleaf table. New fridge, oil stove and propane stove added. Doug Mitchell states "A one-off design Forest Service Ranger launch, the vessel was originally delivered to the Thurston Bay Ranger Station on Sonora Island. With her 3-man crew of Ranger/skipper, cook/deckhand and engineer, this vessel was used in forestry operations in the Bute, Loughborough and Knight Inlet areas. After the Thurston Bay station was closed, the vessel was based in Campbell River for the duration of her service until being decommissioned and sold at auction in 1985. Purchased by Harold Campbell for recreational use, this vesselreturned to Campbell River. Since being purchased by Doug Mitchell in 1992, Forest Ranger II has been home ported in Sidney. Updates since 1992 include an engine rebuild, decks and cabin tops stripped to bare wood and re-glassed with epoxy resin, batwings added for better roll stability, double bunk built in trunk cabin, original galvanized steel water tanks removed and replaced with stainless steel tanks, electrical and electronic systems upgraded, autopilot and AIS added, new foredeck hatch leaves, and new bottom sections scarfed into both masts. Forest Ranger II circumnavigated Vancouver Island in 2016 and completed a two month cruise to Haida Gwaii and back in 2018.
