Anecdotes
This vessel was a dual-purpose vessel based mainly in Hay River, also serves the Arctic coast. Sometimes this vessel was frozen-in at Inuvik or other Arctic locations to save the travel time down the Mackenzie River. The Nahidik put out aids to navigation and activated the RACONs, the radar transponders, along the coast. Captain Chris Holloway stated "She is I believe, leased to the Arctic Research Foundation as a research ship. At least it was 4 years ago. She is operated by Marine Transportation Services (MTS) which is owned by the Government of the Northwest Territories. "
