Ricker, William Edwin

Biography

In 1931 he joined the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo BC.

He taught at the University of Indiana.

In 1950 he rejoined the Pacific Biological Station.

He was retired in 1973.

He developed the Ricker Curve - a mathematical model describing fundamental relationships between adult fish and their offspring.

He wrote on fish population dynamics.

He wrote a Russian-English dictionary of fisheries vocabulary.

He was the author of nearly 200 papers, articles and books about fish, aquatic insects.

From 1950 to 1962, he served as the editor of the Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada (now the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science).

In 1969, he was awarded the first Award of Excellence medal of the American Fisheries Society.

Vessels Owned / Designed

A fisheries research vessel was named in his honor.
